REPORT DATE: 08-01-2023 REPORT TIME: 0010 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MISSISSIPPI CANYON 20 IMAGE DATE: 07-31-2023 IMAGE TIME: 1628 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 28°56'16" N/88°58'15" W AREA: 0.86 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to emanate from the repeat leak source Destroyed Taylor oil platform. It consisted of three oil slicks that extended to the southeast of the source. The oil slick closest to the source was approximately 0.71 nmi long and up to 0.22 nm wide. The second oil slick was approximately 2.9 nm long, 0.03 nm to 0.04 nm wide along most of its length, and contained thicker oil for approximately 0.13 nm of its length. The oil slick farthest from the source was approximately 0.65 nm long and 0.04 nm wide. Winds near the time of the image were coming from the north at 7-13 knots. UNCERTAINTIES: None. Because the oil slick appeared to be emanating from a source that has repeatedly leaked in the past and because of the presence of both thick and thin oil, this report has high confidence.
