REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located approximately 102 nmi southeast of Charleston, SC. It measured approximately 16.2 nmi in length and up to 1.6 nmi in width in a backwards L shape, widening from north to south and west. The anomaly had a dark appearance against its background with fairly sharp edges, and appeared significantly out of place compared to the remainder of the image. Winds at the time of the image were estimated to be from the S at 15-20 kts.


UNCERTAINTIES: Although the widening pattern suggested a potential source to the north of the anomaly, no point source could be identified. Winds were at the upper end of the preferred range for detecting oil in SAR imagery. Thus, confidence that this was oil is limited to medium-high.
