REPORT DATE: 11-25-2023 REPORT TIME: 0015 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: EAST BREAKS 610 IMAGE DATE: 11-24-2023 IMAGE TIME: 1656 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2B MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 27°24'23" N/94°04'47" W AREA: 2.69 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The slick was mostly linear in shape, had a distinctive difference from the background environment, and had areas of brighter returns, which are indications of thicker oil. The slick emanated from the East Breaks area of the Gulf of Mexico and was approximately 142nm S/SE of Galveston Bay, TX and approximately 200nm east of Corpus Christi, TX. The slick was approximately 6.39nm in length, and approximately 0.16nm at the widest point. Winds near the time of the image were out of the north at 9kts. UNCERTAINTIES: We could not rule out that this is a false positive, or natural phenomena. Additionally, image enhancements were very difficult due to heavy cloud cover in the areas surrounding the slick. All of these factors limit our confidence for this report to medium-high.
