REPORT DATE: 11-30-2023 REPORT TIME: 0115 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MAIN PASS 298 IMAGE DATE: 11-29-2023 IMAGE TIME: 2346 UTC DATA SOURCE: RADARSAT2 MODE: ScanSAR Narrow VV RESOLUTION: 25 meter LOCATION: 29°16'30" N/88°44'31" W AREA: 13.22 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The possible oil was located approximately 27.3 nmi northeast of Port Eads, LA, and measured approximately 3.6 nmi in length E-W and up to 2.0 nmi in width N-S. The anomaly had a dark but diffuse appearance against its background. Winds at the time of the image were from the ENE at around 10 kts. NRC report #1385365 reported an oil release from a pipeline nearby approximately 11 hours previous to the image time. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly was in the vicinity of the MPOG-11015 hotline; however, the recent NRC report suggested that this anomaly was unrelated to the hotline. The suspected source was based on the NRC report, but the anomaly was not connected to this point source. Another NRC report, #1385381, reported a slick of unknown origin approximately 3 nmi to the south of this anomaly approximately 9 hours previous to the image time.
