REPORT DATE: 04-25-2024 REPORT TIME: 0115 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: WEST CAMERON 551 IMAGE DATE: 04-24-2024 IMAGE TIME: 1639 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL2A MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 10 meter LOCATION: 28°18'16" N/93°16'09" W AREA: 255.00 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/Products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was located in the West Cameron lease block, and was co-located and likely associated with Hotline #10773 reporting a pipeline leak of natural gas and condensate, as well as multiple NRC reports and two recent MPSRs. The anomaly appeared in multiple parts, each with a distinct, dark appearance against the surrounding water background. Some areas of possible thicker oil were also observed, appearing silvery-white and embedded in the larger areas. The overall anomaly measured approximately 24.5 nm in length and up to 9.5 nm in width. Winds at the time of the image were around 15 kts from the E. UNCERTAINTIES: The anomaly extent was partly estimated under scattered to broken cloud cover, although it may have extended further under the clouds. The anomaly also likely extended beyond the western edge of the image swath. The suspected source location was based on the Hotline and a previous MPSR.
