REPORT DATE: 01-16-2025 REPORT TIME: 1210 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: MAIN PASS 67 IMAGE DATE: 01-16-2025 IMAGE TIME: 0002 UTC DATA SOURCE: SENTINEL1A MODE: Interferometric Wide (IW) VV RESOLUTION: 5X20 meter LOCATION: 29°15'53" N/89°05'25" W AREA: 1.41 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REPORT MAP/GIS FILES: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/products/ocean/marinepollution/ REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly was dark in contrast to the surrounding environmental and appeared of out place. The slick also had well-defined edges and was noticeably distinguishable. The slick was approximately 3.45 nm in length and 0.56 nm in width at the widest point. Winds were approximately 13 kts from the E at the time of image. UNCERTAINTIES: Confidence was limited to medium-high due to the proximity of the slick to land and tendency of false positives in the area. Multiple oil facilities in the region made it difficult to determine a specific point source. Despite the reported NRC hotline 10881 in Main Pass of Louisiana, the anomaly was located north of the general area associated with the hotline, reducing certainty in a direct connection and again limiting the confidence to a medium-high.
