REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The anomaly appeared to emanate southward from near the site of the Andrea Doria shipwreck, then turn eastward and back northward. The anomaly had a length of approximately 6.4 nmi and was up to 0.3 nmi in width. The anomaly had an appearance distinct from its surroundings in the image, with poorly-defined edges. Winds at the time of the image were from the north at around 8 knots.

UNCERTAINTIES: The diffuse appearance of the anomaly allowed for the possibility that this was not oil, although the nature of the suspected source supported that it was.
