REMARKS: Possible oil was observed in satellite imagery. This anomaly is unconfirmed as oil. The linear oil slick appeared to emanate from the Andrea Doria shipwreck, the suspected source of several recent spill reports. Consisting of two segments drifting eastward, the oiled area extended approximately 8.7 nautical miles (nm) from the wreck to its easternmost tip. The slick was highly visible, showing a strong contrast against the surrounding ocean surface and distinct from nearby false positives. At the time of the image, winds were from the south-southwest at 8 knots.
