Topic:
Visible calibration update for month of December

Date/Time(UTC) Message Issued:
3 December 2007, 2200 UTC

Satellite(s) Involved:
NOAA-16, 17, 18, & MetOp-2/A

Instrument(s) Involved:
AVHRR

Product(s) Involved/Affected:
Channel 1, 2, & 3a Products

Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:
11 December 2007, Time 1606 UTC
Details/Specifics of Change:
the December visible calibration update was completed at 1606 UTC today, December 11. For NL/NM/NN, the first orbits processed will be:

NSS.GHRR.NL.D07345.S1418.E1544.B3721516.GC
NSS.HRPT.NL.D07345.S1726.E1740.B3721717.GC

NSS.HRPT.NM.D07345.S1632.E1645.B2839898.WI
NSS.GHRR.NM.D07345.S1446.E1632.B2839798.WI
NSS.LHRR.NM.D07345.S1304.E1315.B2839696.WI

NSS.HRPT.NN.D07345.S1614.E1626.B1318888.GC
NSS.GHRR.NN.D07345.S1426.E1613.B1318788.GC
NSS.LHRR.NN.D07345.S1529.E1538.B1318787.GC

For M2, the first orbit processed will the one running after orbit:
NCS.FRAC.M2.D07345.S1235.E1415.B0593637.SV

The following are updates of the calibration coefficients of Metop-A/2, NOAA-18/17/16 AVHRR solar reflectance channels. The updates are recommended on December 11 and the coefficients are intended to be optimal on December 25, in the middle of the two scheduled updates.

Again, the updates of NOAA-16 for December 2007 are estimated based on the usable observations acquired before October when solar zenith angles were less than 60 degrees.
