Satellite(s) Involved:
NOAA-17 and 18
Instrument(s) Involved:
All instruments
Product(s) Involved/Affected:
All Products/Metop-2 improved earth location accuracy
Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:
14 December 2006, Time 2200 UTC
Details/Specifics of Change:
On December 14, NOAA implemented the following changes to the level 1b operational processing. All satellites are indicated as being impacted by the level 1b software changes since this software supports their processing.
NOAA-17 and 18 Clock Drift Corrections:
Updated clock drift correction file information was implemented at 1913 UTC. The first orbits processed after the change were:

Metop-2 Yaw-Steering Earth Locations Corrections and SEM Major/Minor frame Counter Updates
Updates to the level 1b preprocessor software were implemented at 2200 UTC. This includes software changes to
- perform Metop-2 yaw steering earth location data corrections
- add major and minor frame counters to the SEM Metop-3 data
- update the Metop-2 AVHRR calibration file to handle channel 3 properly in the event of a gain anomaly
- correct Metop specific navigation related flags and extract needed telemetry data, which resulted in some NOAA-KLMN series telemetry parameters being set properly.
The first orbits processed after the change are indicated below.
