NOAA-16 and 18, HIRS, Test Data for Analog Telemetry Changes, 31 January 2006 - Issued: 2 February 2006; 1230 UTC

Topic:
Test Data for the HIRS Analog Telemetry Changes

Date/Time(UTC) Message Issued:
2 February 2006, 1230 UTC

Satellite(s) Involved:
NOAA-16 and 18

Instrument(s) Involved:
HIRS

Product(s) Involved/Affected:
No product impact anticipated

Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:
31 January 2006, Time 1205 UTC

Details/Specifics of Change:
On February 14, NOAA-16 and 18 HIRS analog telemetry data changes will be implemented along with the AVHRR visible calibration update. We believe this to be a no impact change to the user. However, we are providing test data so that you may check out your systems before this changes goes into production. On January 31 around 1205 UTC, our parallel test system was updated to reflect these changes. You will find level 1b test data on the anonymous ftp site (metroweb.nesdis.noaa.gov) under /pub/test/P1B..... For internal data users, test data is provided on the AMDAHL system under P1S or P1B data set names and Metop5 under $ANCHOR/data/POES_TEST/1b or 1bs. If you have any problems, concerns, or questions please contact us no later than February 10.

NOAA-N/18 parameter changes for the analog telemetry coefficients are as follows:
The following temperatures are now reported in Kelvin rather than Celsius:
Radiation Temperature
Baseplate Temperature
Electronics Temperature
Patch Temperature
Scan Motor Temperature
Filter Wheel Motor Temperature

This was accomplished by converting the following 1B file Parameters from Celsius to Kelvin:
Radiator Temperature Coefficient 1
Baseplate Temperature Coefficient 1
Electronics Temperature Coefficient 1
Patch Temperature Coefficient 1
Scan Motor Temperature Coefficient 1
Filter Wheel Motor Temperature Coefficient 1

NOAA-L/16 1B changes are as follows:
Scan Motor Current Coefficient 2 was changed from .4000000E+01 to .4000000E+00.
Patch Controller Power Coefficient 2 (linear) value .3232320E-02 which was reported as 0 was moved to the Patch Controller Power Coefficient 3 (quadratic) value.
