Topic:
To reduce noise generated by an anomalous Gyro-3 on N16 and N17 that
could affect attitude precision, Gyro-3 on N16 and N17 will be turned off
permanently, on 10 June 2004.

Product(s) Involved/Affected:
All Products

Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:

10 June 2004 between 13:10:30 and 13:22:30 UTC for NOAA-16

10 June 2004 between 15:36:40 and 15:48:30 UTC for NOAA-17

Details/Specifics of Change:
To reduce noise generated by an anomalous Gyro-3 on N16 and N17 that could
affect attitude precision, Gyro-3 on N16 and N17 will be turned off
permanently, on 10 June at the respective times indicated above. This
procedure will require a high speed dwell on gyro-3 motor current for 30
seconds for each satellite. During this high speed dwell (30 seconds) there
will be a loss of data. The 30 second data loss can be anticipated between
the times given above for each satellite...
