NOAA is upgrading the current polar data ingest processing infrastructure to utilize the Advanced Front End Processors (AFEP) instead of the current FEPs to provide the raw satellite data for level 1B processing. This change was successfully completed for GOES ingests on November 16. The switch on November 29 will complete NOAA's transition to AFEP operational support. Parallel testing is complete and the data is deemed acceptable to support operations.
The final transition will occur around 1555 UTC on November 29, 2005. Following is an excerpt from the polar ingest log that indicates data to be processed after the change is complete. SOCC controller monitors will switch at the same time as IPD operations. From that point the IPD operational data stream will be supported by the AFEPs and OWLs. This is considered a no impact change to the user community.
