REPORT DATE: 01-03-2023 REPORT TIME: 2355 UTC REGION: GULF OF MEXICO SUB REGION: N/A AREA/BLOCK: NUECES BAY 751 IMAGE DATE: 12-31-2022 IMAGE TIME: 1658 UTC DATA SOURCE: LANDSAT9 MODE: Multispectral RESOLUTION: 30 meter LOCATION: 27°52'07" N/97°21'53" W AREA: 1.80 square kilometers CONFIDENCE: Medium-High REMARKS: Possible, unconfirmed oil was observed in satellite imagery. This report is related to Hotline 10548, the Ingleside dock oil leak from 12/24/2022 (see also NRC reports 1356415 on 30 Dec., 1355881, and 1355879). The anomaly was made up of multiple dark patches, possibly tarballs, spread across an area 2.25 nm long and .75 nm across and located near the shoreline in the NE area of Nueces Bay, inside Corpus Christi Bay, Texas. Considering the Hotline updates and confirmation that the spill had flowed into Nueces Bay, the report was issued with Med-High confidence despite the prevalence of false positives in the area. The point source was located outside the map area, approximately 9 nm to the SE at the Ingleside dock in Corpus Christi Bay. Winds were light, variable. UNCERTAINTIES: There may have been more patches of possible oil than outlined in this report but the prevalence of false positives in the Bay made it difficult to define any further with confidence.
