25 MAR 97 -- SST Anomalies Eastern Tropical Pacific continues to take on a much more anomalously positive appearance in the past 10 days. Some upwelling still is seen in evidence along portions of the Peru coastline from time to time, but overall the trend appears to continue to warm: along the Equator; north of the Equator; and south of the Equator, in the eastern Pacific. In the western Pacific, increasing negative SST anomalies can be seen off the NE coast of Australia [Great Barrier Reef] northward through Papua New Gineau and east of the Philippines. ERS-2 SCAT -- http://manati.wwb.noaa.gov/doc/tpc_stuff.html and sunglint in the GOES images show light variable winds along and near the Equator. AES
