27 MAY 97 -- SST Anomalies El Nino event appears to be taking over much of the estern Pacific as warm water speads north to Alaska and south to Chile. Intersting cool pool of water remains just north of Hawaii [presisted for most of 1997 so far]. Cool water along the NE coastline inside the Gulf Stream off US persists up to the St. Lawrence. Cool water continues in South Atlantic along the Equator and south. Tropical cyclone left its cool "wake" in the Bay of Bengal and over into the Andaman Islands. AES
