DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1730Z July 08, 2019
SMOKE:
Alaska/Western and Northern Canada/Northwestern U.S...
Several wildfires remain active across Alaska and western
Yukon Territory. A large heavy-density smoke plume covers most of
central-southern Alaska, extending westward into Norton Sound and eastward
across the Canadian border and into southwest Yukon Territory. Light
density remnant smoke also covers the Gulf of Alaska. The smoke transport
in Alaska is predominantly due south-southwest, and south-southeast in
Yukon Territory.
Central and Eastern Canada/Northern and Northeastern U.S...
Wildfire activity is also observed this morning along the Manitoba-Ontario
border. A large area of moderate-to-heavy density remnant smoke covers
the Ontario province, extending southward over the Great Lakes area
and eastward towards New England and the northwest Atlantic ocean. The
smoke transport is predominantly due east following the higher level
atmospheric flow.
Bay of Campeche/Western Gulf of Mexico...
A plume associated with gas flaring activity off of oil rigs in the Bay
of Campeche is seen extending towards the northwest for approximately
400 miles over the western Gulf of Mexico.
