DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0254Z August 6, 2019

SMOKE:
Alaska/Canada...
The complex of fires across Alaska and Northwestern Canada are still
burning but at a much slower rate. A large area of remnant smoke from
these fires continued moving generally eastward and extended across
Alaska, Canada, and the Great Lakes. Cloud cover across much of Alaska and
portions of central Canada may obscure smoke plumes across these areas.
Between breaks in the cloud cover, light and medium density smoke was
observed.  Multiple plumes of heavy density smoke were visible moving
east from fires on the northern pacific coast of British Columbia.

Pacific Northwest...
A region of heavy density smoke was observed generally moving eastward
from fires in Washington, Idaho and western Montana.  A majority of
the heaviest density smoke remained in the northern portions of eastern
Washington, Idaho and western Montana.  Light density smoke transported
from these fires and additional fire activity in Canada was visible
dipping into the Dakotas and Great Lakes regions.

Nevada/Utah/Southern Idaho....
Several fires grouped together south of Elko, Nevada along with several
other fires in Northeastern Nevada and Northwestern Utah were producing
moderate to heavy smoke which was moving eastward across northern Utah,
southern Idaho, southwestern Wyoming, and northwestern Colorado.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
