DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1801Z April 5, 2020
SMOKE:
Central U.S...
Areas of thin to localized light density smoke were visible across
portions of the Central U.S. mostly in Iowa. The smoke was being produced
by seasonal fire activity. There was cloud coverage over the area which
made it difficult to detect smoke in surrounding states that were also
covered in seasonal fire activity.
Southeastern U.S...
Seasonal fires were responsible for a number of visible mainly thin
density smoke plumes especially over east central Alabama, Georgia,
and southern North Carolina.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
