DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z May 12, 2020
SMOKE:
Western Mexico/Eastern Pacific Ocean...
A large region of light to moderate density smoke was observed over
portions of Western Mexico. Light density smoke was also observed
offshore out over the Eastern Pacific Ocean. Moderate to thick density
smoke was observed in the vicinity of several large complex fires present
in portions of Western Mexico this morning.
Southern Mexico/Central America...
Light to moderate density smoke was observed over portions of Southern
Mexico, Northern/Western Guatemala, and Western Honduras this morning.
Eastern North Carolina...
A small complex fire was observed in Davis,North Carolina in Eastern
North Carolina with light to moderate density smoke progressing Southward
towards the Atlantic Ocean this morning.
South Florida...
Agricultural burning was observed in the Lake Okeechobee region of
South Florida. Light density smoke was observed from the fire activity
progressing Southwestward this morning.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
