DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800Z Thursday, September 4, 2020
SMOKE:
Western U.S./Pacific...
Light density remnant smoke from yesterday’s fires over the Western
U.S. and Pacific Ocean continued moving east across Idaho, Montana,
and Wyoming. Moderate to heavy smoke plumes were seen emitting from
these fires today following the same path as yesterday.
Oregon/Washington...
Fires in Oregon (Beachie Creek and Lionshead) and Washington (Evans
Canyon) were observed emitting moderate smoke. The smoke from the
Lionshead and Evans Canyon fires was moving off toward the east-southeast,
while the smoke from the Beachie Creek fire was moving west-northwest
then north-northwest later in the afternoon. Some remnant smoke was
moving off toward the west-southwest, also contributing to the region
described above.
Northern Rockies/Central Plains/Ohio Valley/southeastern Canada...
Wildfire activity across southeastern Montana, as well as the Cameron
Peak fire in north-central Colorado, is contributing to a large area of
smoke extending southeast across Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas. The smoke
then moves eastward across Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
