DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1800Z September 22, 2020
SMOKE:
CONUS, Eastern and Southern Canada, and Northeastern Mexico…
The wildfire activity over the western United States, especially from
California and Oregon, continued to produce very large light to moderate
smoke plumes that extended over most of the United States, eastern and
southern Canada. Further to the west, moderate to high density smoke
was also seen extending from southern Oregon and most of California.
Central and Eastern Atlantic Ocean…
An area of light density smoke extended from the northern Atlantic Ocean
south to portions of the north central Atlantic Ocean and then curving
back southwest towards the U.S. eastern coast.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
