DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0001Z December 11, 2020
SMOKE:
Southeastern U.S…
A couple of leftover remnant patches of thin density smoke attributed
to yesterday’s round of significant seasonal fire activity in the
South Central and Southeastern U.S. were visible this morning. One
was seen moving to the northeast over northern Mississippi while the
second one was moving east over southern Alabama and the western Florida
panhandle. Otherwise, a few thin density plumes were noted moving to
the south from agricultural fires south of Lake Okeechobee in southern
Florida.
Later this afternoon and into the evening various light to medium density
smoke plumes were seen emitting from the fires scattered throughout the
southeast. The majority of them were moving towards the northeast
Central Texas…
A medium to heavy smoke plume was seen emitting north from a cluster of
fires seen in south-central Texas.
Northwestern U.S. …
A few light smoke plumes were seen emitting north from fires located
in across the southern border of Oregon. There were also plumes seen in
northern California but they remained in proximity to the fires.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
