DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z March 18, 2021
SMOKE:
Florida, Atlantic Ocean...
Agricultural burning activity was observed throughout Florida causing
a large number of Light to moderate density smoke plumes progressing
northeastward towards the Atlantic Ocean. Off the coast of Florida and
Georgia there is a area of light to moderate density smoke (approximately
360 miles by 240 miles) from heavy seasonal burning over the western
Atlantic Ocean.
Arizona...
In southeastern Arizona a light to moderate density smoke plume attributed
to probable wildfires was observed moving southeast.
Canada, Minnesota...
In southeastern Ontario a light to moderate density smoke plume attributed
to probable wildfires were observed moving south over northern Minnesota.
Gulf Coast from the Florida Panhandle to Texas, eastern Mexico, Gulf of
Mexico and northern Central America….
An area of mostly light density smoke from fires over Mexico, Central
America and Cuba extended from the Gulf Coast of the United States from
the Florida Panhandle west to eastern and southern Texas and then south
through most of the Gulf of Mexico, eastern Mexico and into northern
Central America. Agricultural burning activity was observed throughout
Mexico causing a large number of light to moderate density smoke plumes.
DUST:
Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma...
An area of dense blowing dust was seen over western Texas extending east
into western Louisiana, southwestern Arkansas, and southern Oklahoma.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
