DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z June 23, 2021

SMOKE:
Western U.S. including Arizona and Western Colorado/Central U.S...
Wildfire activity in North Central/Eastern Arizona and in Western Colorado
was observed this morning, however smoke analysis was difficult in these
regions due to cloud cover from a weather system present in the region. A
large region of light to moderate density smoke attributed from ongoing
wildfire activity in the Western U.S. in parts of Colorado and Arizona
was observed over the North Central, Central, and South Central United
States in early morning GOES visible satellite imagery.

Western Atlantic Ocean...
A large region of remnant light density smoke from fire activity in the
CONUS over the past few days was observed south of Newfoundland ahead
of a weather front in early morning GOES visible satellite imagery.

Southern Mississippi Valley...
Light density smoke attributed from ongoing wildfire activity in the
Western U.S. was observed over parts of the Southern Mississippi Valley
including parts of Arkansas and Louisiana.

Western Ontario Province...
Two wildfire complexes in far western Ontario Province near the Manitoba
border were observed, however cloud cover over this region made smoke
analysis difficult in this morning’s GOES visible satellite imagery.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
