DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1740Z October 12, 2021
SMOKE:
Atlantic...
A detached thin density plume leftover from previous days’ wildfires in
the western U.S. and south-central Canada was found from a few hundred
miles southeast of Newfoundland to a few hundred miles northwest of
the Azores.
Canada...
A detached thin density plume from previous days’ wildfires in southern
Saskatchewan was located over east-central Manitoba and west-central
Ontario.
California...
A large wildfire near Refugio State Beach in Santa Barbara County was
producing a long, narrow thin density plume extending southeast to near
the northern coast of Baja California. Within this thin density plume,
a long, narrow moderate density plume was detected also extending to
near the northern coast of Baja California.
DUST:
Atlantic...
A thin density plume of Saharan dust was detected from the Bermuda area
east-southeast into the central Atlantic.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
