DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0110Z October 16, 2021
SMOKE:
Southwest California...
A mostly thin area of smoke from the fire activity over coastal southwest
California was extending offshore southern California and into portions
of the northern Baja.
Central California...
The Sequoia National Park Wildfires in central California were emitting
light to heavy density smoke which was spreading in all directions near
the source fires.
Northern California…
A mostly thin area of smoke from seasonal burning and smaller wildfires
was observed over northern California.
Southeastern U.S., Atlantic Ocean...
A area of thin density smoke attributed to seasonal burning was detected
over the southeastern United States extended along the Gulf states and
out off the southeast coast over the Atlantic Ocean.
DUST:
Central and Eastern Atlantic Ocean and Eastern Caribbean Sea...
A large area of Saharan Dust was extending across much of the eastern
and central Atlantic Ocean through the eastern Caribbean Islands and
into the eastern Caribbean Sea this evening.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
