DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1620Z October 16, 2021
SMOKE:
Eastern United States….
An area of light density smoke, from fire activity over the southeastern
and central United States, was extending along the East Coast of the
United States from Delaware and eastern Maryland southwest to northern
Florida.
Central Canada to the Upper Midwest of the United States….
Areas of light density smoke, from fire activity over the northwestern
United States and western Canada, were extending from the Upper Midwest
of the United States northwest into Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Pacific Ocean just offshore the Central and Southern California Coast….
An area of light density smoke from the fires over coastal southwestern
California, was extending offshore from the northern Baja to just offshore
southern and central California.
DUST:
Central and Eastern Atlantic Ocean and the northeast Caribbean Sea….
An area of Saharan dust was extending across the eastern and central
Atlantic Ocean and through the northeastern Caribbean Islands and into
the northeastern Caribbean Sea.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
