DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z October 17, 2021
SMOKE:
Florida….
An area of light density smoke, from the fires over the Southeast and
Central United States, was seen from off the east coast of central and
southern Florida and then extending through central and southern Florida
and into the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio and Michigan….
An area of light density smoke, from the fires over western Canada,
was seen over western New York, western Pennsylvania, West Virginia,
Ohio and southern Michigan.
DUST:
Central and Eastern Atlantic Ocean and the southeast Caribbean Sea….
An area of Saharan dust was extending across the eastern and central
Atlantic Ocean and through the southeastern Caribbean Islands and into
the southeastern Caribbean Sea.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
