DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1933Z November 9, 2021
SMOKE:
Southeastern U.S…
An area of thin density remnant smoke attributed to recent seasonal
fire activity occurring in east Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama,
and Georgia was seen extending along the Gulf coast of LA, MS, AL and
the FL panhandle. Additional new light density plumes were observed
scattered throughout the same region as fires continued to burn. Cloud
cover obscured visibility of the full extent of smoke and fire activity
in the region.
Southwestern Canada/Northwestern US…
Heavy cloud cover due to an atmospheric river event obscured visibility
of the full extent of smoke and fire activity in the area, but a large
number of fires were still detected through breaks in the clouds along the
Canadian/US border and into Idaho. Smoke is likely below the cloud deck.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
