DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0210Z December 5, 2021
SMOKE:
Lower Mississippi Valley, Southeastern United States, Western Atlantic
Ocean...
Agricultural burning activity was observed over parts of the Lower
Mississippi Valley especially over Louisiana as well as over parts of
the Southeastern U.S.
Earlier today, an area of light density smoke, from the continued
agricultural burning activity over the past few days in the Southeast
United States, was located offshore from the Southeast United States over
the Western Atlantic Ocean and then extending west to coastal areas from
Georgia to North Carolina this evening.
Mid Mississippi Valley including Missouri...
Agricultural and seasonal burning activity was observed over parts
of the Mid-Mississippi Valley especially over most of Missouri. Light
to moderate density smoke was observed from the fire activity in this
evening’s GOES visible satellite imagery.
Eastern/Northern Arizona...
Isolated fire activity with light, moderate and thick density smoke
was observed in East Central Arizona and light density smoke from fire
activity was observed Northern Arizona in this evening’s GOES visible
satellite imagery.
Southwestern/Southern Mexico, Bay of Campeche, Eastern Pacific Ocean...
Light to moderate density smoke from offshore drilling platforms was
observed over the Bay of Campeche. Light density smoke from seasonal
fire activity was also observed over parts of Southern Mexico as well as
over parts of Southwestern Mexico and offshore over the Eastern Pacific
Ocean in this evening’s GOES visible satellite imagery.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
