DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE:
Southern Plains/Southeastern U.S...
Numerous light and moderate density plumes from agricultural burns
were detected from central and eastern Oklahoma/Texas, across the
Lower Mississippi Valley, and eastward to South Carolina. The
majority of the plumes were moving off to the east-southeast and
southeast.
SMOKE/AEROSOL:
Mexico...
A combination of thin density smoke from seasonal fires in
southeastern Mexico and other atmospheric pollutants including
aerosols from oil/gas flaring in the region were detected along the
southeastern Mexico Pacific coast extending offshore for several
hundred miles.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE.
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
