DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Central CONUS/south-central Canada… A large area of light remnant smoke was observed through much of the Great Plains extending from northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan southward to the Texas Gulf coast. Lower Mississippi Valley… Numerous seasonal fires were observed along the lower Mississippi River valley from the Missouri Bootheel to Louisiana, with fires in the agricultural areas on either side of the river. Smoke from these fires was observed moving generally southwest, and consisted of moderate-density smoke primarily over eastern Arkansas, with lighter smoke extending through Louisiana and into far eastern Texas. Texas… A large fire was observed in north-central Texas producing considerable amounts of thick smoke moving generally southeastward. Near sunset, new smoke from the fire appeared to be beginning to drift northwestward. Northwestern Canada… Wildfires predominately in western areas of Northwest Territories were producing areas of active and remnant smoke of up to moderate density. The remnant smoke was spread from near the Arctic coast into far northwestern Alberta/northeaster British Columbia. MTC THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
