DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0005Z October 31, 2022
SMOKE: North Dakota/Central Ontario… Several agricultural fires were observed burning across eastern North Dakota during the afternoon hours with light density smoke emissions dispersing toward the northeast-east in the direction of western Minnesota. Another plume of light density smoke linked to previous day fires in that same general area could also be seen moving eastward through central Ontario. Southern Mexico/Northwestern Central America/Pacific Ocean South of Mexico and Central America… A large area of light density smoke, likely from the scattered fire activity over Mexico and atmospheric pollutants from industrial sources primarily in southeastern Mexico was seen throughout the day over southern Mexico and Bay of Campeche and the Pacific Ocean south of the southeastern coast of Mexico. A pocket of medium density smoke resulting from gas flaring activity in the Bay of Campeche was also observed across that area, extending inland over eastern Veracruz and western Tabasco. Dust: Western Arizona… Blowing dust could be seen forming off the Hualapai Valley in western Arizona and dispersing toward the northeast for approximately 20 miles. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
