DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z October 30, 2024
SMOKE: Southeastern United States/Gulf Coast/Great Lakes Region/Southern Ontario... A layer of light-to-moderate density remnant smoke attributed to seasonal agricultural burning along the Mississippi River and throughout the Southeastern United States continues to be observed this morning. This mixed density smoke was seen stretching southeastward from Iowa and Nebraska, through the Lower Mississippi River Basin, continuing east along the Gulf Coast before extending north along the Appalachian Valley into the Great Lakes region and southern Ontario where it then was seen moving east into the northern Atlantic Ocean. Moderate density smoke was seen near the Lower Mississippi River Basin where a significant amount of seasonal burning is currently taking place. AEROSOL: Western Mexico/Pacific Ocean... A light density aerosol plume was observed over southwestern Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, south of the Gulf of California. This aerosol was likely produced from volcanic emissions and industrial activity from major urban centers within the southern area of Mexico. Willkens THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
