DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2330Z November 7, 2024

SMOKE:
California/Pacific Coast...
Moderate-to-thick density smoke continues to be seen emanating from the
destructive wind fueled wildfire by the name of ‘Mountain Fire’ that
started Wednesday morning in Ventura county in Southern California. This
moderate-to-thick density smoke was seen moving west from its origin
towards the Pacific Ocean, then moving northwest along the coast where
it was seen combining with a plume of smoke from the Santa Lucia fire,
before dispersing further northwest into the Pacific Ocean. Several small
light density plumes were observed in Northern California, resulting in
small clusters of localized light density smoke in the region.

Pacific Northwest...
A significant amount of fire activity was seen throughout the Pacific
Northwest this afternoon and into the evening. Plumes from wildfires
ranging in density from light to moderate, and even heavy, were seen
scattered throughout Washington State, Oregon and Idaho. These plumes
were observed blowing mostly west-northwest in direction and resulted
in a layer of very light density smoke covering the region.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Southwestern Mexico/Western Gulf of Mexico...
An area of light density smoke/aerosols attributed to scattered fire
activity, volcanic emissions and industrial sources was observed this
evening moving northeast through southern Mexico from the coasts of
Guerrero and Oaxaca and then north along the western Gulf of Mexico
where additional gas flaring emissions could be seen originating from
oil rigs in the Bay of Campeche.

SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
