DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z November 18, 2024
SMOKE: No areas of significant smoke were observed this morning due to limited fire activity and widespread cloud cover across the HMS geographic domain. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Central and Southern Mexico/Pacific Ocean/Western Gulf of Mexico... An area of light density smoke/aerosols attributed to scattered fire activity, volcanic emissions and industrial sources was observed over areas from the Pacific Ocean off the coasts of Guerrero and central Oaxaca, across central Mexico and then north along the western Gulf of Mexico. The aerosol plume observed over this region is composed mostly of volcanic emissions from Popocatépetl and urban aerosols from Mexico City. Willkens THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
