DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: Southern Florida... Several prescribed agricultural burns were observed today just southeast of Lake Okeechobee with light density smoke spreading northwest across the lake towards central Florida. No other significant smoke was observed this evening due to widespread cloud cover across the HMS geographic domain. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Western Gulf of Mexico/Bay of Campeche/Southern Mexico/Pacific Ocean... An area of light density smoke/aerosols attributed to scattered agricultural burning, volcanic emissions and industrial sources was observed this evening along the Southwestern coastline of Mexico and into the eastern Pacific Ocean, then continuing into Southern Mexico and parts of the Western Gulf of Mexico where additional gas flaring emissions could be seen originating from oil rigs in the Bay of Campeche. Willkens THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
