DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0000Z December 19, 2024

SMOKE:
Arizona...
A plume of light density smoke from a wildfire in central Arizona was
seen blowing north across the state.

Louisiana...
A layer of light density smoke attributed to seasonal agricultural
burning was observed this evening moving southeast towards the Gulf
Coast. Several prescribed burns surrounding Lake Okeechobee in Southern
Florida were seen emitting light density plumes moving northeast in
direction before cloud cover began to obscure visibility, preventing
further analysis throughout the area.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Central and Southern Mexico/Pacific Ocean/Gulf of Mexico/Bay of
Campeche...
An area of predominantly light density smoke and aerosols attributed
to scattered agricultural burning, volcanic emissions and industrial
sources throughout Central and Southern Mexico was observed this morning
through Central and Southern Mexico’s coastal areas, extending into
the eastern Pacific Ocean, Central and Southern Mexico, and parts of the
western Gulf of Mexico where additional gas flaring emissions could be
seen originating from oil rigs in the Bay of Campeche.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
