DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2350Z July 3, 2025

SMOKE:
Alaska/Yukon/Canada…
Widespread wildfire activity continued across central Yukon, eastern
British Columbia, southwestern Northwest Territories, Alberta, and
Saskatchewan, producing a vast area of light to moderate smoke that
stretched from northern and western Alaska eastward across central
Canada and into western Quebec. The most concentrated smoke, approaching
moderate to locally heavy densities, was centered over northern Alberta
and northern Saskatchewan, linked directly to clusters of persistent
large wildfires.
The smoke generally moved east and southeast across the Canadian Prairies
and into Ontario, while light smoke wrapped northwest across Yukon and
back into portions of Alaska.

Central and Eastern United States…
Diffuse light smoke extended into the northern Plains and Midwest,
with scattered patches reaching the Ohio Valley. This was primarily from
long-range transport of Canadian smoke, combined with contributions from
localized burning in parts of the central U.S.

Pacific Northwest…
Fires from northern California into Washington State were observed
producing light to moderate smoke. Smoke was moving southwest from fires
in northern California and east-southeast from fires in the Washington
Cascades and north-northeast from a fire in eastern Washington.

Southern California and the near-shore Pacific…
The Madre fire along the southern rim of the Central Valley is producing
thick smoke that is observed extending south and south-southeastward
over the Channel Islands, perhaps with some light to moderate smoke
encroaching on the Los Angeles to San Diego Metro area.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
