DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2350Z July 5, 2025

SMOKE:
Alaska/Canada/United States…
Widespread wildfire activity across central Alaska and the Canadian
central provinces (Yukon, Northwest Territories, Alberta, Saskatchewan,
and Manitoba) continued to generate extensive light to heavy smoke. The
thickest smoke was concentrated over central Alaska, northern Alberta,
and central Saskatchewan, with broad plumes spreading east across
Canada into Quebec, and southeast into the northern and eastern United
States, where moderate smoke covered the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley,
and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Central and Southern United States…
Light to moderate smoke extended southward through the central Plains
into Texas, and further east across the Southeast U.S., with impacts
noted over the Gulf Coast and reaching the western Atlantic.

Western U.S./Pacific…
Persistent fires in northern California and the Madre fire in southern
California produced moderate to locally thick smoke, drifting eastward
into Nevada and Arizona, while lighter smoke moved offshore from northern
Baja California into the Pacific.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
