DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z December 25, 2025

SMOKE:
South Florida…
Scattered agricultural burning along the southern coast and south of
Lake Okeechobee were observed producing light smoke plumes that were
moving south to southwest.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Mexico/Tropical Eastern Pacific…
A sizable area of light smoke and aerosol was analyzed across portions
of Central and Southern Mexico, the Pacific coast of Guatemala, and
the Tropical Eastern Pacific (and perhaps some of the southern Bay of
Campeche). One of the slightly more dense areas exists from around Mexico
City westward out over the Pacific then north to perhaps the southernmost
Gulf of California. A second area of slightly more dense smoke/aerosol
exists near the ITCZ well offshore of Mexico. A third area is moving
from the southern Bay of Campeche south across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec
and from the Guatemalan Pacific coast southwest out over the Pacific.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
