DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SMOKE: CONUS… Fires were detected across the central and southeastern CONUS this evening, with a high concentration located in southeastern Georgia. In that area, small smoke plumes were observed drifting eastward. A few additional small smoke plumes were also noted in south-central Oklahoma. However, widespread cloud cover across much of CONUS limited visibility, preventing the detection of any larger smoke plumes in satellite imagery. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Mexico/Pacific Ocean… Fires continued across Mexico, with the highest concentration observed in west-central portions of the country. This activity generated a broad area of light-density smoke, which was likely composed of aerosols from urban and industrial sources mixed with residual emissions from scattered fire activity. The smoke moved northwest along the coastline before dispersing over the Pacific ocean and continuing northwestward offshore. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
