DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2350Z January 22, 2025

SMOKE:
Oregon...
A large area of predominantly light smoke attributed to a combination
of remnant smoke from agricultural burns and wildfires, was observed
settling within the Willamette valley.

California...
Light to Heavy density smoke was observed emanating from the ongoing
Hughes wildfire (immediately north of Santa Clarita). The smoke was
observed drifting Southwest into the Pacific Ocean. Additionally,
a large area of predominantly light smoke attributed to a combination
of remnant smoke from agricultural burns and wildfires, was observed
settling within the California valley.

Arizona...
Light to Heavy density smoke was observed emanating from the ongoing
Horton wildfire (Central Arizona). The smoke was observed drifting South
into the Mexican province of Sonora.

Texas/Louisiana...
A suspected mix of agricultural burns and industrial emissions in the
lower regions of Eastern Texas and Western Louisiana produced light
to moderate density smoke that blew towards the Northeast into the
Central Plains.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Southern Mexico/Pacific Ocean...
An area of predominantly light density smoke and aerosols attributed to
scattered agricultural burning, volcanic emissions and industrial sources
throughout Central and Southern Mexico was observed this morning along
Mexico’s Southern Pacific coasts, extending west into the Pacific Ocean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
