DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2350Z June 8th, 2025

SMOKE:
Canada/Central and Eastern United States/Atlantic Ocean/Europe...
Wildfire activity across Western and Central Canada continues to produce
thick smoke that is spreading east from northeast British Columbia to
Quebec and the northeastern United States. Light smoke covers most of
Alaska, Canada, and the United States east of the Rockies, and moves
east over the Atlantic towards Europe.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Mexico/Gulf of America...
An area of light density smoke and aerosols, attributed to widespread
seasonal fire activity, volcanic emissions, and industrial sources was
observed extending over most of Mexico and the Yucatan, moving north
into Texas and mixing with smoke from Canada before moving east toward
the Atlantic.

DUST:
Tropical Atlantic...
Saharan Dust was observed moving west from the Atlantic into the
Caribbean.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
