Policy on Access //
NOAA's Satellite and Information Services (NESDIS) recognizes the need for full and open
exchange of environmental satellite data and products, as allowed and governed by
relevant laws, international agreements, national and organizational policies and the
availability of resources. This page contains instructions for submitting a Data Access
Request Form and an overview of the review process.
Comprehensive Large Array-data Stewardship System (CLASS) //
The Comprehensive Large
Array-data Stewardship System (CLASS) is an electronic library of NOAA
environmental data. This web site provides capabilities for finding and obtaining those
data. CLASS is NOAA's premiere on-line facility for the distribution of NOAA and US
Department of
Defense (DoD) Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite (POES) data, NOAA's
Geostationary
Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) data, and derived data.
NOAA Open Data Dissemination (NODD) //
Nodd- NOAA generates tens of
terabytes
of data a day from satellites, radars, ships, weather
models, and other sources. While these data are available to the public, it can be
difficult to
download and work with such large data volumes. NOAA’s vast wealth of data therefore
represents
a substantial untapped economic opportunity. The NOAA Open Data Dissemination (NODD)
Program
provides public access to NOAA's open data on commercial cloud platforms through
public-private
partnerships.
Direct Readout Equipment //
Complete list of meteorological
satellite receiving systems, system components, and system integrators. It has been
compiled by the NOAA/NESDIS Satellite Products and Services Division, Direct Services
Branch. The intent of its compilation is as an informational tool for users and is not
an endorsement by NOAA of any specific manufacturer or product.
Direct Services Branch (DSB) //
Direct read out: The Direct
Services
Branch (DSB) is responsible for keeping NOAA's broadcast
services running smoothly, and is the main way people can interact with NOAA's satellite
transmissions. DSB leads the Search and Rescue Satellite Aided Tracking (SARSAT) system,
as well
as GOES and Argos Data Collection Systems (DCS).
