SATELLITE ANALYSIS AND TRENDS...GOES-WEST CONTINUES TO DEPICT A PROMINENT LOW TO THE WEST OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS. TO ITS EAST, ACROSS THE ISLANDS, SOUTHERLY AND SOUTHWESTERLY LOW-LEVEL FLOW CONTINUES TO FEED AN AXIS OF ENHANCED MOISTURE ORIENTED N-S AND CENTERED NEAR OAHU. PW LEVELS WITHIN THE AXIS ARE NEAR 2.0 INCHES BASED ON A 2047Z AMSU PASS, WHICH ALSO DEPICTED AREAL AVERAGE RAIN RATES OF AROUND 1 IN/HR OCCURRING IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF OAHU AND KAUAI. THIS IS VERIFIED BY RADAR ESTIMATES OF INSTANTANEOUS RAINFALL RATES EXCEEDING 2.0 IN/HR. IR IMAGERY DEPICTS A LARGE AREA OF DEEP CONVECTION WITH COLDER CLOUD TOPS TO THE SSW OF THE REGION, IN WHICH THE AMSU PASS INDICATED AVERAGE RAIN RATES UP TO 1.4 IN/HR SUGGESTING THE POTENTIAL FOR LOCALIZED RAIN RATES NEAR 3.0 IN/HR. THIS AREA IS MOVING NE TOWARDS THE CENTRAL HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.

IN SHORT TERM OUTLOOK...ONGOING HEAVY RAIN ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS WILL CONTINUE. THE LARGE MASS OF ENHANCED CONVECTION WILL MOVE NE TOWARDS THE CENTRAL ISLANDS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS, MAINTAINING THE EXCESSIVE RAINFALL THREAT THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. GIVEN THE LARGE AMOUNT OF ANTECEDENT RAINFALL IN RECENT DAYS, FURTHER HEAVY RAIN IS LIKELY TO RESULT IN NEW AND CONTINUED FLASH FLOODING.
